COLRAIN - Mrs Evelyn D Purington, 44, of Leyden Rd., was found dead of a gunshot wound Friday morning at her home. Medical Examiner Dr John H Olsen of Colrain, who pronounced her dead at the house, ruled death was suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
State police said her husband, Edward A Purington, had gone to the barn about 7 and returned to the house about 8:45 a.m. to find her on the floor of a sewing room.
She was born in Bennington, Vt. the daughter of Robert and Isabel Weatherbee Dahms, and had lived in Colrain 21 years since her marriage. She was a graduate of Steven's High School in Claremont, N.H., and Northampton Commercial College. Besides her parents and husband, she leaves two daughters, Betty and Susan, and a brother, Robert of Presque Isle, Me. Funeral arrangements under direction of Johnson funeral home are incomplete.
