Catherine "Kate" L. Halfmann, 79, formerly of 1018 First Street, Kiel died peacefully September 22, 2002 at Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein with her family at her side. She had been a resident of the Homestead the past three years.
She is s the former Catherine Riesterer, born in St. Nazianz on June 21, 1923, daughter of the late Anton and Mary Fessler Riesterer. She attended St. Gregory School in St. Nazianz. Kate married Robert Halfmann at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz on June 21, 1945. Her husband Bob preceded her in death on March 3, 1992. Kate was employed for a number of years at the former Hanson Glove Factory, Kiel.
She enjoyed floral and vegetable gardening. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Kate was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, its Christian Womens Society, the church choir, and was very active with the church's prayer line.
Survivors include her seven children Richard (Nancy Hass) Halfmann, New Holstein, Patt (Don) Grohskopf, Ada, Kathy (Dennis) Reiter, Madison, Robert (Linda Herwig) Halfmann, Kiel, Sherry (David) Winkel, St. Anna, Don (Audrey Mayer) Halfmann, rural Elkhart Lake, Keith (Sharon Randolph) Halfmann, Wauwatosa; 13 grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.
She is further survived by three brothers, Fritz and Joanne Riesterer, Collins, Al and Sandy Riesterer, Newton, Tony and JoAnne Riesterer, Manitowoc, three sisters, Lain Steffen, St. Nazianz, Rose and Elroy Miller, rural Kiel, Mary Ann Repenshek, Sheboygan, two sisters-in-law, Ernestine Riesterer, School Hill and Juanita Riesterer, Kiel.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Matthew Riesterer and Francis Riesterer.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Loren Nys, SDS officiating. Burial took place in the parish cemetery.
