Ralph G. Veenker, oldest son of Rev. and Mrs. G. Veenker, of Mason City, Ia., was born July 25, 1882, at Greenwood, Clark County, Wis.
At the age of two he moved with his parents to Parkersburg, Ia., where for eight years the family resided. From Parkersburg the family removed to Ashton, Ia., where they lived for two years. From here the family moved to Foreston, Ill., where Rev. Veenker was pastor of the German Reformed church. From Forestson, the family removed to Clara City, Minn.
It was at Clara City that Ralph was married to Miss Amanda Geib. To this union two children were born, Leonard George, aged eight years and Dorothy May, age six years. At about the time the family came to Sioux Falls, where Rev. Veenker did missionary work in the German Reformed church, living in the parsonage of the Reformed church on the East Side, Ralph and family removed to Aberdeen, here they lived for about four years, and from Aberdeen they moved to Fargo, N.D. where they lived for four years till death claimed the father (Nov 12, 1918)
Mr. Veenker chose for his life work the art of display and decorations, applying it commercially to the retail trade of dry goods enterprises, and built up for himself an enviable record. He experienced a useful and enjoyable life. He was taken with influenza but was so far recovered that he was sown stairs and sat with the family at the supper table, but soon after returning to his bed, complained of not feeling well, and in a short time was dead of heart failure.
He leaves his wife and two children, his parents, the Rev. G. Veenker and wife of Mason City; brothers, Herman F., who is superintendent of John Morrell and company; August of Los Angeles, Calif., George, with the army aviation service; Fred, of Mason City, and sister, Elizabeth of Mason City, Iowa.
Interment was made in Woodlawn cemetery. (Argus-Leader, Sioux Falls, South Dakota-Mon, Nov 18, 1918)
