Union County has suffered the loss of one of its landmarks, in the death of Charles Barringer, a pioneer businessman of Jonesboro. Mr. Barringer was a veteran of the Mexican War and one of the few survivors in this country of the Battle of Buena Vista, the incident of which he never quite tired of relating.
Charles Barringer was the father of George Barringer, county superintendent of schools; Mrs. Nannie Jones, and Mrs. Morrell, widow of Sidney Grear.
He was a member of Jonesboro A. F. and A. M. Lodge, and his funeral was conducted Thursday by that fraternity. Mr. Barringer served as treasurer of the Jonesboro fair for over thirty consecutive years, and was a man of strong character and sterling worth.
