Fred Abraham Driver, 92, a long-time Waynesboro resident who was widely known throughout the area, and who resided at 255 Florence Ave., died at 1 a.m. yesterday at the Waynesboro Community Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital at 9 p.m. Monday.
Mr. Driver was born in Mt. Clinton, in Rockingham County, on Aug. 3, 1871, the son of a minister. He spent his early childhood in Mt. Clinton before the family moved to Waynesboro in March of 1880.
Mr. Driver was a farmer and dairy inspector for the state of Virginia. He was also manager of the Waynesboro Creamery before his retirement, a number of years ago.
His wife, the former Daisy Elizabeth Karicofe of Churchville, preceded him in death on July 17, 1957. They had celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in April 1956.
Mr. Driver was an active member of Springdale Mennonite Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. B. L. (Frances) Jennings of Camden, S. C., and Mrs. W. L. (Thelma) Russell of Waynesboro.
The body will remain at the Etter Funeral Home until 9 a.m. tomorrow when it will be placed in the Springdale Mennonite Church. Funeral services will be held in the church at 10 a.m. conducted by the Rev. Paul Wenger, who will be assisted by the Rev. Franklin Weaver. Interment will be in the Church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Joseph Burkholder, Robert Wenger, Nelson Driver, Lewis Driver, Vernon Driver and Amos Showalter.
The family requests that flowers be omitted.
