Major Herrington was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on November 30, 1950. His remains were not recovered.

Mrs. Stephen Hasted received word Tuesday from her niece in Spokane, Washington, of the death of Captain William F. Herrington.
Captain Herrington entered the service in 1941 and served in Japan. At the close of the war he was sent to Germany with the American occupation forces. He returned on leave to visit his wife in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, in July but was immediately called back to duty. He was sent to Korea with the Second Army Division. He is survived by his wife and two sisters, Edna and Jean of Spokane, Washington.
He lived in Saline with his parents in 1930 when his mother was principal of the Saline schools. Mrs. Herrington died in September 1931."
