Benjamin Samuel Pearson, 86, of Granite Falls, went home to be with his Lord, Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at Autumn Care of Drexel. Mr. Pearson was born in Alexander County, to the late Archie Lee Pearson and Carrie Preslar Pearson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Rhodes Pearson; stepmother, Blanche Hice Pearson; and a sister, Betty Ruth Smith. He was retired from Burlington Industries, a veteran of the Army Air Corp, a Town Commissioner of Rhodhiss, Treasurer of Baton Water Corp. and the Caldwell County Fair, a lifetime member of Baton Ruritan and a Troop Leader in the Boy Scouts of America, receiving the District Scouter of the year award and a BSA Wood Badge recipient. He was recipient of many awards, recognizing his service to the community. He was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, a member of the choir and had served on various other committees. His memory will be cherished by his daughter, Marsha Feldman and husband, Mark, of Roswell, Ga.; sons, Michael Pearson and wife, Bonita, of Holden Beach, Jim Pearson and wife, Debbie, of Greer, S.C. and David Pearson and wife, LaMyra, of Granite Falls; grandchildren, Michael Pearson of Winston-Salem, Whitney Pearson of Sayreville, N.J., Adam Feldman of Ellicott City, Md., Scott Feldman of Roswell, Ga., Jennifer Kirby of Asheville, James Pearson of Raleigh and Isaac Pearson of Granite Falls; seven great-grandchildren; his beloved canine companion, Blackie; a brother, A. L. Pearson of Bethlehem; and sisters, Patsy Crump of Cary and Genelle Dail of Wendell. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m., in Pendry's Chapel, with Dr. Adam Feldman and the Rev. Jeff Burkhimer officiating. Burial followed at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers were Issac Pearson, James Pearson, Michael Pearson and Scott Feldman. Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
