Joseph "Doc" worked in the Oil Business, and that is what took them to Ohio from Pennsylvania. He was not a physician, and we do not know why the nickname "Doc".

Joseph was son of Hugh McGIFFIN and Mary Margaret "Polly" LUCAS.
He was born in Clover Township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania.
He had five sisters, Martha Jane 1840-1913, Rebecca "Becca" 1842-1911, Margaret Hannah 1847-before 1880, and Ella 1858-1943.

Joseph married Jennie A. CALE about 1879.
Their children were: Paul Orlo 1880-1962, John Fred "Jip" 1882-1971, and Samuel Richard "Dick" 1894-1971
