Charlyne Patricia Davis Cromartie, was born September 5, 1947, in Bradenton, to the late Monsolee T. Davis and Fern T. Davis. She departed this life very suddenly, Thursday, June 17, 2004.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Friday, June 25, at Westside Funeral Home, 204 7th Street West, Palmetto. Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, June 26, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 525 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue East, Bradenton. Burial is at Mansion Memorial Park, Ellenton.
She was educated in the public school system of Manatee, Hillsborough, and Leon Counties. She graduated from F.A.M.U., with a B.S. degree in speech pathology, later obtaining her master's degree in Science and a special degree in Speech Pathology, from the University of South Florida. Charlyne was employed by the Sarasota County School Board, as a Speech Pathologist, for 32 years, retiring as a Curriculum Pre-K Consultant. She was married to Jimmie L. Cromartie, on August 22, 1970, and remained a truly committed and devoted wife and mother, until her sudden demise.
Charlyne joined St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church as a young adult, where she served very faithfully as a choir member, women intermediate ministry, the pastor's aid committee, and a deaconess trainee. She was also affiliated with AKA Sorority Inc., Order of Eastern Star, East Bradenton Women's Club, Jack and Jill of America Inc., Integrated Prayer Group and Club Lescocurs.
She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted husband, Jimmie L. Cromartie; three sons, Lt. Colonel Keith Cromartie (Gabriel), Porsbery, Germany, Kyle Cromartie, Tallahassee, Fla. and Keaton Cromartie (Cherrell), New Orleans, La.; two daughters, LaRae Hopkins, Jacksonville, Fla., and Lanore Hammond (Edwin), Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Susan Gilbert (Donnie), Bradenton, and Jean Ellenwood, Rochester, N.Y.; one aunt, Eloise Valdez (Forrest), New York City, N.Y.; three uncles, Joseph Thompson (Dorothy), Bradenton, Franklin Thompson (Alice), Tallahassee, William Hill, New York City, N.Y.; one god-daughter, Sholanda Randall, Cleveland, Ohio; a devoted and caring cousin, Imogene Campbell; nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of cousins, other family members and friends.
