Pvt. McCaleb was killed in action on Saipan, July 13, 1944. He volunteered for service in November 1943 and served with the fourth division of the Marines. He took his basic training at San Diego, CA, and was ordered overseas in January of that year. Survivors include his father, Manton L. McCaleb, Cookeville, Route 2; three brothers, Orville and Keith McCaleb, Cookeville, Horace McCaleb, Detroit; three sisters, Mrs. Audrey Stewart, Mrs. Mattie White and Miss Jean McCaleb, all of Cookeville.
