Mr. Samuel E. Sims was the first performer at the Chautauqua Auditorium in Riverview Park.
On July 27, 1898, the seventh annual awarding of Livingston County diplomas took place there. Mr. Sims of Pontiac sang for the graduates, thereby becoming the first soloist to perform in the new auditorium. Two days later on July 29, 1898, the first Chautauqua Assembly was held.
