Dorothy Owens Ledbetter (dtr of Annie Laurel Jones Owens) says her Mother told her that Nancy E. Jones was buried at the Alex cemetery on the Walthall Ranch located near Alex, OK. She said there is no marker there but John Andrew T. Jones made a stone of red rock.

The family has passed down the story that after the death of Nancy Jones, Mrs. Walthal, who had only girls, wanted John to let the ‘two little girls' come and live with her. He told her he could not give up his babies.

John Andrew T. Jones worked as a blacksmith on the Walthall ranch. He was shoeing horses when a horse kicked him. He lived about one day before he died. When John Andrew T Jones died he was buried next to his wife Nancy.

The George Walthall ranch was located northeast of the town of Alex, OK. With the death dates of Nancy and John Jones being in 1889 and 1896 and the fact that they are documented to have died on the Walthall ranch, their burial place would be in the Laflin Creek Cemetery. The cemetery was originally known as the Ireton community's cemetery but after George Walthall bought the land, he worked to get the cemetery recognized as a legal cemetery with the name of Laflin Creek Cemetery. This cemetery is often thought of as "an Alex cemetery" but it is not "the" Alex Cemetery.

The following story was told by Jesse Lee Bitting, great grandson of John A. T. Jones, to his daughter, Jere Sue Bitting Neal, in 2009:

Jesse L. Bitting is in the possession of a shotgun given to him by his grandmother, Ermine Jones Kirkland. The story goes that John Andrew Jones had a trading post and was a blacksmith in Bitter Creek Bottoms which was in Oklahoma Territory in the 1870's or 80's. John had acquired the gun from his stint in the Civil War. About that time, Frank James, one of the famous James brothers, who had "gone straight", became a deputy marshal in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He came through Bitter Creek Bottoms trailing a criminal and stopped at John's trading post. Frank James decided that because of the dense and difficult terrain at Bitter Creek Bottoms, a long rifle wasn't an appropriate weapon to use, so he asked to borrow John Jones' shotgun. He did and brought down the criminal.

NOTE; There is one other child: BOSS JONES b 9 Feb 1881 or 1882 - when Boss was about 12 years old one of his half brothers took him to New Mexico. They were suppose to be gone only about six months, but they never returned. No one heard from then since that time.
