Born in Montalbano Elicona, Sicily, Italy, on January 21, 1927, he was the son of the late Gaetano and Tanina Stefano. After completing his education, Salvatore became the owner of a cafe /bar in Italy. He married his childhood sweetheart, Pauline, in 1957 in Tindari, Italy. In 1960, Salvatore and his wife moved to Easton, Maryland, where they owned and operated Stefano's Sub Shop on Route 50 for over 30 years. Salvatore was an excellent cook. He was also an avid antique collector and loved to paint. He loved opera and enjoyed watching soccer and boxing on TV.
Salvatore was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Pauline. He is survived by a daughter, Antonella Carlo and husband Jim, of Brookfield, Connecticut; a son, Tommy Stefano and wife Nancy, of Easton, Maryland; two grandchildren: Arianna Carlo and Paula Stefano; and one great-grandchild: Chace Stefano.
Family and friends will be received at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 200 South Harrison St., Easton, MD 21601 on Friday, October 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 7906 Ocean Gateway, Easton, MD 21601 on Saturday, October 19, at 10:30 a.m. Burial services will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton, Maryland.
