Alice Marie (Lee - Latta) Longley 91, went to meet her Lord
on Sunday, October 13, at her residence in Bunch, surrounded
by her family. Alice was born to parents Robert E. and Gertrude
Emma (Ellis) Lee on September 2, 1922 in Bunch, Okla.
Her mother passed away Jan. 7, 1940, and Alice helped
raise her five brothers and sister. She married Edd Latta, and
to this union six children were born.
She married John Longley in 1971 in Harrison, Ark. She worked
for over 18 years for The Campbell Soup Company as a USDA
inspector in Fayetteville, Ark. After retiring John and Alice kept
foster children. In May of 1992 there was an article in Stilwell
Democrat Journal about Alice and John serving as foster parents
for Adair County Department of Human Services for many years.
They adopted one of them Lonnie Coachman of Tahlequah.
She said she had "gobs" of hobbies: gardening, sewing,
crocheting, going to Wal-Mart and garage sales, but mostly
spending time with her family. She was a member of the
First Baptist Church of Bunch since August 23, 1940.
Her daughter said you could always tell how her mom's
day had been by the hymn she would be singing when they
came home from school.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Kathleen
Gail (Latta) Carson; her husband John; 4 grandchildren and her
siblings; Calvin, George, Earl, and twins Jack and Robert (Ray)
Lee, and her sister Patsy (Lee) Carter.
She is survived by her children Dorothy Hartman of Hominy,
Sudie and her husband Joe Center of Hominy, Bobby and
wife Wanda Latta of Stilwell, Mike and wife Sharon Latta of
Bunch, and Billy Joe and wife Theresa Latta of Stilwell and
Lonnie Longley of Tahlequah.
Her services were held at Bunch First Baptist Church.
Officiating were Rev. Azle Loyd, her grandson Pastor
B.J. Latta Jr. Interment at Bunch Cemetery.
