He was not only a determined man; but, was also generous. When he became ill doctors said he'd never walk again. But, Mr. Bailey got up every morning and aggresively exercised. Eventually, he taught himself to walk again. According to his nephew (Rev. Benson), "He would go out of his way to coordinate his wardrobe and always wore hats. He loved to dress up and always prided himself on how he looked." Before he died, he carefully picked the photo he wanted to appear with his obituary.
According to Rev. Benson his uncle was, "Generous in his finances, generous in his giving of gifts and generous in his spirit."
Mr. Bailey was employed for more than 30 years at Kelly Air Force Base and retired as a supervisor jet aircraft mechanic.
For over 40 years he was a member of Mt. Zion 1st Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death are his parents and a sister, Katie. Surviving are a sister, Claudell Bailey Benson; nephews, Desmer Benson, Jr., Rev. Dr. Ronald Benson, and Michael Benson; grandnephew, Sterling Christy III and grandniece, Clair Lynn Christy.
