LEONARD F. GOSPODAREK
(1920 - 1952)

Leonard F. Gospodarek, 32 (photo), of 1803 Hamilton St., Manitowoc, a veteran of World War II and active in band circles of Manitowoc since his high school days, died Friday at the Veterans' Hospital, Wood, Wis., following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 am Monday at the Leschke Funeral Home, Manitowoc and at 9 o'clock at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. John Landowski will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was born in Manitowoc in 1920, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gospodarek. He was graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, in 1938 and in his school years was a trumpeter in the school band. He joined the U.S. Marines in World War II and saw service overseas as a trumpeter in the First Marine Division band, entering the service in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Mr. Gospodarek joined the Manitowoc Marine Band and was active in this musical organization since finishing school. Until taken ill he was employed in the offices of the Aluminum Good Company in Manitowoc. In addition to membership in the band he was a member of the St. Mary Young Men's Club, the Holy Name Society and the Oas Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In 1944, while still in service he married Miss Grace Felber at San Diego, Calif. She survived with two daughters, Bonnie and Judy and two sons, Gene and John, all of Manitowoc; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gospodarek of Manitowoc; four brothers, Alois of Two Rivers, Michael Jr. and Adolph of Manitowoc and Anthony of Oshkosh; two sisters, Mrs. John Witczak and Mrs. Ben Tomchek of Manitowoc; his aged grandfather, John Gospodarek, 98, of Manitowoc, also survives.

Friends may call at the funeral home after Sunday noon, where the rosary will be recited at 7 pm and 8 pm Sunday. There will be military rites at the graveside by the Veterans of Foregn Wars. The Marine bad will also attend the final rites.
