A.J. attended grade school in Bila Hora. He passed on stories of how he and his siblings walked to school with cardboard shoes his mother had made. Then after school they returned home to work on the farm. His parents sent him to stay with family friends in Weimar so he could attend High school. At the age of 18 he joined the Navy. He served two years in Tsingtao, China where he obtained the rank of Seaman First Class, received the Victory Medal WWII, and an Honorable Discharge. After which he moved to Houston, Texas and became a successful business owner. Here he met and married Joy Rae Slaughter. On January 7, 1959 the couple had a daughter, Medina Kaye. His adventurous nature lead him from carpentry work in Houston, to uranium mining in Colorado. On May 14, 1961, Alton was the sole survivor of a 2-car accident in Sealy, Texas, that took Joy and Medina's lives.
Many years later he married Pamela Joyce Wooden in Houston. He was then blessed with two more children and a stepdaughter. In 1984 the family returned to Bila Hora after learning of his brother's terminal illness. After he and Pam divorced, he continued to live on his ranch and maintained his properties in Houston. He spent his final 18 years enjoying companionship with a dear friend, Vera Tesch of Sheridan.
He was a member of the S.P.J.S.T. for over 50 years and Czech Moravian Bretheren Church of Vsetin. A.J. spent his time with family and friends, going dancing, hunting, fishing, and farming. He always welcomed visitors and enjoyed showing them his pet raccoons, foxes, and deer. He will be remembered as a kind, and funny man.
Alton was preceded in death by his 1st wife Joy; daughter Medina; parents, brother Raymond F. Fojt, and sister Christine Wornat.
The family would like to thank the staff of Parkview Nursing & Rehab Center, Hospice of South Texas, Dr. Robert Youens and the many friends and family that came to visit during his illness.
