Death of Mrs. Dr. Bussey.
Columbus Daily Enquirer, Columbus, Georgia; Friday, May 14, 1886, Page 8

Announcement of the death of Mrs. Dr. N.J. Bussey, which occurred yesterday morning at 6 o'clock, will carry a pang of sorrow to many hearts. While it was known that the angel of death had been hovering over her for several days, it had been hoped that the life of one so useful in this world night be spared yet awhile to those who loved and respected her. But, the master whom she had served so faithfully for so many years had decreed otherwise, and her spotless spirit has been summoned to that blissful abode where joy eternal reigns supreme. There has never lived in this community a nobler woman than Mrs. Bussey. Her daily life was an exemplification of the beauty and holiness of pure and undefiled religion. She was a devout member of the First Baptist Church, and it was her delight to do good in the name of the Lord whom she loved, and her deeds of love and charity are well-known to those who watched her daily walk. The world is always made better by such noble characters, and her death is not only an irreparable loss to the grief-stricken husband and children, but to the entire community.

Mrs. Bussey was a daughter of Mr. Charles Smith and was born in Talbotton on the 16th of June 1824. She was married to Dr. Bussey at that place on July 2d, 1844, and for forty-two years was his bosom companion, bearing with him his sorrows and misfortunes with Christian fortitude and sharing his fortunes and honors with becoming grace and unostentatious dignity. Her amiable character and womanly virtues won her the love of all with whom she came in contact and many will drop a tear in sorrow upon the casket which now contains her mortal remains. Mrs. Bussey was the mother of Rev. B.W. Bussey, Mr. N.J. Bussey, Mr. H.C. Bussey, Mr. W.W. Bussey of this city, Mrs. Orr of Charlotte NC, and Mrs. Dixon of Shelby NC. The family have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their sad bereavement.
