Ed J. Brown Of Hurdland, Former Harness And Shoe Repairman, Died Saturday
Ed J. Brown, 91, of Hurdland, died at 1:25 o'clock Saturday morning, Nov. 27, 1971, at the Laughlin Hospital in Kirksville where he had been a patient two days. Mr. Brown was engaged in farming during his early years and in 1924 moved to Hurdland where he owned and operated a harness and shoe repair shop until his retirement. He was the last of thirteen children of David and Sarah Catherine Emil Brown, who moved to Knox County about 1865 from Ohio.
Funeral services were at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Edina with the Rev. Archie Cooper of Kirksville officiating. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Hurdland.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Marie Moore, of Hurdland, with whom he made his home, a son, Herschel Brown, of near Baring, three grandsons, 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
Mr. Brown was born Sept. 6, 1880, northwest of Baring, and was married Nov. 20, 1904, to Lillie M. Hull. Mrs. Brown preceded him in death Nov. 27, 1949, at 67 years of age, and 22 years to the day of her husband's death. Mr. Brown was a member of the Nazarene Church at Hurdland.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, fives sisters and seven brothers.
