Ervin C. Promes, age 77, of Carroll passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll.

Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Maurice Dunn Post of the Carroll American Legion.

Born on March 2, 1936 at Wynot, Nebraska, he was the son of Joe and Ida (Arens) Promes. He grew up in St. James, Nebraska on his family’s farm and graduated from Wynot High School in 1954. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Army and served four years. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Following his military career he worked for Missouri Valley Machinery in Sioux City as a mechanic. Erv was married to Sharon Ann Hochstein on May 21, 1960 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wynot.
They were blessed with two daughters: Charlotte and Cindy; and four sons: Craig, Chris, Carey and Curt. The couple made their home in Carroll where they raised their family and he owned and operated Promes Construction. Erv was a member of St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll, the Carroll Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and the Carroll Moose Lodge. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, hunting, and watching westerns.

Erv is survived by wife; two daughters; four sons; sixteen grandchildren, a brother; two brothers-in-law; and three sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Erv was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Raynold Promes and Gerald “Red” Promes, three sisters: Mildred Koch, Lucille Arens, and Mary Ann Promes.
