William was born on July 8 1621 in St. James Parish at Southbroom, Devizes, Wiltshire, Eng .William Died 25 August 1702 in Concord Township, Chester Co., Penn

Susan James was born March 28 1623 in Calne, Wiltshire Co, England .She died Abt 1663in Calne, Wiltshire Co, England .Susan married 7 Jun 1647 Calne Parish, Calne, Wiltshire, England .Susan James died before William left on his voyage to america in 1682.

William Cloud's purchase of land from William Penn is recorded on October 7, 1682. That land is in what became Concord township, Chester county, Pennsylvania. Though he was advanced in age at the time of his purchase, being 61 years old at the time, he soon gathered his family and left upon the arduous voyage to the New World. Nothing is known as to why he chose to leave Wiltshire, and little is known about the family's political or religious beliefs, though they were apparently Quaker or Friends.

Quakers and/or friends are a faith in the 1600's that emerged as a new Christian denomination in England during the period of religious turmoil. This new religion is practiced today in a variety of forms around the world to this day.

The loading of the "Unicorne" was mentioned in the London Gazette of June 22, 1682 under a Bristol dateline of June 17th as ship "now ready to take in Goods and Passengers

To reach this graveyard from Swindon, enter Devizes on A361, continue to town centre, Saint James Church is on LHS by the Green and the large pond. You will see the graveyard beside the church on the edge of the Green.

Saint James Church is situated on the Green called The Crammer and overlooks the town pond which is famous for the legend of the Wiltshire Moonrakers. There has been a church on the site since at least 1400, possibly earlier and the graveyard has been in use since 1505. It is owned by the Church of England.
