In 1815, at age 15, took out a Seaman's Protection Certificate in New Orleans, listing place of origin as Philadelphia, PA. Appears in McElroy's Directory of Philadelphia as a "dyer" and "blue dyer", with a business employing a number of workers and machinists at 2223 Callowhill St. in Philadelphia from 1851 to 1863, when he left his dye works and moved back to Germantown, living on Clinton Street (now Wakefield) near his daughter Adeline and his son-in-law Abraham B. Selsor. Listed as "laborer" in directory from 1864 until his death in 1866, of "nervous exhaustion." Survived by his wife Louisa Haines, who is also buried in St. Stephen's.
