Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon for Mrs. Martha Jane Abbott, 84, who died at her home in Nancy on October 5. She had been ill since April.

Born November 21, 1875, she was the daughter of the late Dennis and Sarah Catherine Humble McClendon at Vinnie and had made her home in the county her entire life. She was a member of the White Oak Baptist Church where she was faithful in attendance as long as her health permitted.

On July 3, 1904, she was united in marriage to William Perry Abbott. He preceded her in death on August 26, 1955.

Mrs. Abbott is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Flora Tarter, Eubank, Mrs. Anna Tarter, Faubush; three sons, Ray and Elmer Abbott, Nancy, and Avery Abbott, Bell Flower, Illinois; three sisters, Mrs. Lavinia Barlow, Mrs. Lena Barlow, Sydney, Ohio, Mrs. Sally Gossett, West Somerset; and two brothers, Daniel McClendon, Columbia and Buford McClendon, Ringgold.

Funeral services were held at the White Oak Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Jones officiating. Burial was in the White Oak Cemetery.
