Nobility. The seventh child of Sancho I and Dulcia of Aragon. He married Jeanne de Flandre in 1212 and succeeded as Fernando Count of Flanders and Hainaut by right of his wife. He was captured at the battle of Bouvines in 1214, and taken to Paris where he remained a prisoner for twelve years.
