Catherine Selzer, 75, of Peterson, passed away Monday, March 18, 1940, at her home in Peterson. She had been in poor health for several years.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 21, from the Selzer home, with Rev. Alex Greeb officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Peterson, Iowa.

Catherine Grage was born February 24, 1865, in Landkirchen, Fehmarn, Germany, and came to the United States with her parents to Chicago, Illinois in 1883. She married Andrew Selzer on December 21, 1893, in Chicago. In 1907, they moved to a farm near Durant, where they lived for eleven years. They then moved to a farm near Peterson, until they retired and moved to Peterson.

Surviving are her husband, Andrew; one son, George Selzer of Everly; one daughter, Elizabeth Kinkade of West Bend; 14 grandchildren; one sister, Fredericka (Carl) Ploen of Durant; and one son-in-law, Carl Harmsen of Durant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant son in infancy, one daughter, Frieda Ehler, who passed away at her home in Chicago on February 3, 1938, and two sisters, Amalie Harmsen and Elise Harmsen. One sister and two brothers preceded her in death in infancy in Germany.

Notes: Catherine Grage was born in Landkirchen, Fehmarn an island off the northern coast of Schleswig-Holstein. Together with her parents, brothers and sisters, they sailed on the ship Harmonia arriving in New York on November 22, 1883 and settled in Chicago, Illinois. She married Andrew Selzer on December 21, 1893 in Chicago. They were the parents of Frieda Agnes, George Conrad and Elizabeth Selzer. In 1907, Catherine and Andrew moved to a farm in Cedar County near Durant and later moved to a farm in Clay County near Peterson, Iowa.

Added Note: For some unknown reason, she has "Cathrine" on her gravestone, which is an error. I keep getting Edit Requests to change her name to Cathrine, which I totally disagree with. I have seen other gravestones with the wrong name and even the wrong dates of birth and death. This is my memorial, my family, and I will have it my way.
