Matt Terry, 41, was a current, 19-year veteran of the Edmond, Oklahoma Police Department. MATTHEW BRIAN TERRY, 41, of Edmond, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on October 2, 2013. Matt was born to his devoted parents, Bill and Jody Terry in Tulsa, Oklahoma on January 24, 1972. He graduated from Stroud High School in 1990 and Northeastern State University in 1994. He was married to the love of his life, Kathy, on July 15, 1995. The light of Matt's life was his precious daughter, Heather, age 14. Matt spent his professional career as a law enforcement officer at the Edmond Police Department, where he had worked for 19 years prior to his death. He started as a patrol officer and was a Detective at the time of his death. Matt's career at the EPD was distinguished. Matt was awarded the Medal of Valor in April 2002 for bravely rushing into a burning home to rescue the homeowner, and was named the EPD Officer of the Year in 2007 after working to identify and solve the murder of an unidentified victim. More importantly, Matt earned the undying friendship, respect, loyalty and devotion of his brothers and sisters in arms and returned it to them freely. Matt was always the life of the party and the happiest guy in every room. His gift for a well-timed joke and love of a good laugh will never be forgotten. He was the kind of person everyone loved to be around, especially when his beloved Sooners were winning. Matt is survived by his wife Kathy and daughter, Heather, his parents Bill and Jody Terry, his older brother Doug and his wife Amy, and Matt's adoring nephew and nieces, Gabe, Kendall and Madison Terry, all of Edmond. Matt's in-laws, who loved him as their own, Lee Shahan, Bob Shahan and Pam Dickerson, Kelly and Vern Ramsey, Ken and Amy Shahan and Kyle and Kyoko Shahan, and ten much loved nieces and nephews, who all live near and far but love large. Matt's extended family, the Barnes and Terrys, includes dozens of aunts, uncles and cousins who love and will deeply miss him. Matt has hundreds of friends whose love and support has and is a blessing, comfort and tribute to the joy and honor of the man that Matt was. Funeral services will be held at 3:30, Monday, October 7, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church of Edmond. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Matt Terry Benefit Account at BancFirst, P.O. Box 3370, Edmond, OK 73083.
