Obituary
In Plymouth, May 17 - Mrs. Carrie I. (Howland) Bumpus, 86, Seipet street, South
Carver, died last Thursday at a Plymouth nursing home after a long illness. She
was married to the late Ira B. Bumpus and they had two sons, the late Andrew
and Theron Bumpus.
Prior to going to a nursing home, she made her home with her daughter-in-law
as her son, Theron Sr., died in 1953.
Mrs. Bumpus was born in West Brewster on Dec. 31, 1869, the daughter of Elisha
and Isadora (Ellis) Howland, both natives of the Cape town. She moved to South
Carver at the age of 19. She was a member of the Methodist church in South Carver
and the WSCS. She was a former member of South Carver grange.
Mrs. Bumpus is survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. from Beaman's funeral home, 28 Middle
street with the Rev. Ottavio Schiavoni pastor of the South Carver Methodist church,
officiating. Burial was in the Union cemetery, South Carver, where she occupied the
last grave in her family lot.
