Tammy Terrell Blueford-Jackson, 41, of Austin, TX passed away Sept. 26, 2013 at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, Okla. after a heroic battle with cancer.
Tammy was born the fourth child to Walter and Lonnie Faye Blueford on Nov. 20, 1971, in Sweetwater, TX at 8:20 p.m. at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital. She attended Mt. Rose Baptist Church and became a full member of the youth choir.
During her adult life, while living in Austin, she became a faithful member of the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. Tammy's early school years attendance were in Sweetwater where she played basketball, volleyball, ran track and was a cheerleader. In 1986 she moved to Austin, TX where she attended A.N. McCallum High School and played basketball and graduated in 1990.
Tammy attended Blinn Junior College and Virginia College, which led her to work for the Settlement Home. At the Settlement Home she found her passion to mentor and encourage young girls, so much so that she started a nonprofit organization called Friends Forever. The mission of this organization was to "Provide young girls with a friend to turn to in a time of need, no matter what the situation might be."
In 1995 she was blessed with a beautiful baby daughter, Ealliyah. It was then that her passion grew even stronger, where she strived every day to lead by example in hopes to lay a strong foundation for her daughter. Tammy also worked for ACS for over six years. In 1998, she married Michael Jackson.
Survivors include one daughter, Ealliyah Rainey of Austin; parents, Lonnie Faye Blueford of Austin and Walter Blueford (Dorthey) of Sweetwater; four sisters, Pam Shaw and Regina Okunloye (Joseph) of Austin, Karshena Valsin (Jimmy) of Arlington and Jasmine Blueford of Sweetwater; three nieces, Courtney Cathey, Alise Shaw and Jaliyah Houston; four nephews, Corey Thompson, Melvin Shaw, Jimmy Valsin, III and Kelby Ray Valsin, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Tammy is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Walter and Queen Ester Williams, and paternal grandparents, George and Mozelle Blueford.
Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 5900 Cameron Road, Austin, Texas 78723 with Pastor A.W. Anthony Mays officiating. Burial will follow at Cook Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013 from 1-7 p.m. at Kings Tears Mortuary, 1300 E. 12th Street, Austin, Texas 78702.
