According to the book titled "History of Ritchie County" William came from Prince William County Virginia and settled near Claysville in Wood County at an "early" day. He was born August 31, 1774 and died September 4, 1825. He married Frances Groves.
The War of 1812 service records have William Prince as a Captain in the 1st regiment (Connell's) Virginia Militia.
