John was born May 1852, Ballymena, Antrim County, Ireland to David Agnew and Ellen O'Loan/Alone/O'Loane.

He says he immigrated in 1871 according to the 1900 census. In 1880 he was living with his sister Sarah Agnew Murray and her family in Kingston, Washington County, Missouri and he was listed as John Agnew, 31, single, farmer.

In Washington Co., MO., John Agnew of Kingston, County of Washington, State of MO who is over the age of 21 and Kate Jackson of Kingston in the County of Washington, State of Mo who is over the age of 18 were married. Witness in Potosi this 10 day of August 1881. The Catholic Priest did at Old Mines in Washington Co., on 11 Sept 1881 unite in marriage. S. Maddew.

Missouri Death Cert 12096 shows John Agnew died Mines Twp., Washington Co. on Apr 6, 1910, white male, married, date of birth don't know, age 60, farmer, parents don't know, died of pulmonary tuberculosis 2 years, buried Old Mines April 7, 1910, informant J. B. Boyer, undertaker, Potosi, MO.

A letter from Jerry Miederhoff in October 1980 said "My mom's oldest sister, Mary (Sr Marie of Jesus) did write back with one piece of information. She wrote, "Did you know that the Agnews in North Little Rock were dad's first cousins? Grandma's brother came over later and married a Baptist. You did have it correct that their (Hugh Murray & Sarah Agnew) first was Ellen Jane."

He married Lula Beatrice Hinch, 16, June 1903, DeSoto, Jefferson County, Missouri.
2. John Aubrey Agnew, born 8 August 1883, Kingston Twp, Washington County; baptized 4 November 1883, St. Stephens, Richwoods, Washington County; died 23 November 1919, Old Mines, Washington County and is buried in St. Joachim Cemetery, Old Mines, Washington County, MO. He married Margaret Pashia, 1 July 1914, Denver, Colorado.
3. unnamed child, born 24 October 1885, Kingston, Washington County, Mo. Apparently died young.
4. Albert Agnew, born 29 December 1888, DeSoto, Jefferson County, Missouri and died the same day.
