She was born March 7, 1923, to Glenn and Nellie (Lake) Mingus in Ross County, Ohio. Gloria was united in marriage to the late Wendell Jerry Downing on June 2, 1945.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by sisters, Audrey Swaim, Geraldine Turner and Donna Jean Davis.
Gloria is survived by her three sons, Gary L. (Jackie) Downing, Glendon R. (Becky) Downing and Gordon L. Downing and her two daughters, Gloria E. (John) Farmer and Gwendolyn F. Thompson. She leaves behind her older brother, Raymond Mingus, 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gloria attended Vigo School, and was a member of the 1942 graduating class of Southeastern High School. She worked at the Powder Plant during World War II and later cleaned homes for several ladies who loved her dearly, while raising her own family.
Gloria was a member of the Chillicothe First Church of God, the WCG and The Prime Timers Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday October 1, 2013 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastors Matt Roe and Greg Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call at Ware's from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Gloria's name to Chillicothe First Church of God's Family Life Center P.O. Box 83 Chillicothe, Ohio 45601.
