Mr. Tillman A. "Till" Powell, age 88, of Marion, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013 at Sunrise Rehabilitation and Care. Till was born in Burke County on January 17, 1925 to the late Robert L. Powell and Mary Watts Powell, affectionately known as Mom and Pop Powell to all who knew them. He served his country during WWII in the U. S. Army in the Pacific Theatre and in the Philippines Liberation Campaign. Till loved his family and cared for them very well. He loved farming and raised cattle and hogs and all sorts of food. He was retired from Western Carolina Center where he served for many years. He was also a former member on the board of the Farm Bureau.

Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Odom Powell of the home; three sons, Tap Powell and wife Martha of Valdese, Robert Lee Powell of Drexel and Frank McCoyle of Marion; numerous brothers and sisters; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Free Will Baptist Church with Revs. Carl Miller, Willie Summerlin and Wayne Miller officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Westmoreland Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
