Funeral services were held for James "Jim" Steenhoek from the Third Reformed Church of Pella, Iowa at 2:00 p.m. in Monday, May 30th, 1966 with the Rev. James Benes officiating. A family prayer service was held in the church basement prior to the services.

Casket bearers who served were all nephews: Jerald Steenhoek, Gilford Steenhoek, Clarence P. Van Zee, Gerald Verros, Galen Dykhuis, and Carroll Boot.

Interment took place in the Oakwood cemetery under the direction of Garden Chapel.

Death came to James Steenhoek on Thursday, May 26, 1966 at the Pella Community Hospital at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 28 days.

He was born on a farm in Jasper County near Sully, Iowa on January 28, 1892.He was one of eight children born to John and Gertrude (Vander Wilt) Steenhoek. On February 10, 1915 at Galesburg, Jim was united in marriage to Gertie Marks. His entire life was spent in Jasper and Marion counties where he farmed until his retirement. He and his wife moved into Pella in 1950. They had been members of the Galesburg Methodist church until coming to Pella when they united with the Third Reformed church.

Surviving "Jim" are his wife Gertie and all of his five children. They are: Harvey Steenhoek of Route 2, Pella; Gladys Mrs. Neil Woody of Newton, Iowa; Wilma, Mrs. Logan Ver Ploeg of Route 3, Pella; Helen, Mrs. Robert Marshall of Newton, Iowa; and Carl Steenhoek of Route 2, Monroe, Iowa.

There are 14 grandchildren surviving. One grandson, Larry, son of Harvey, is currently serving in the United States Peace Corps in Ecuador, South America. Two brothers, Naldo C. Steenhoek and P.W. Steenhoek, both of Pella and three sisters: Lena, Mrs. Gerrit Verros of Leighton; Gora, Mrs. Andrew Dykhuis of Pella and Anna, Mrs. Clarence Boot of Sully, Iowa also survive.

Two brothers preceded him in death.
