Cape Elizabeth -- Isabelle M. Spear, 96, formerly of Bay View Avenue, South Portland, died Monday (March 8) at a nursing home here after a long illness. She was born in South Portland, a daughter of Charles W. and Marie Jordan Werner, and attended local schools, graduating from South Portland High School in 1920. She was the widow of Willard W. Spear, who died in 1970. Mrs. Spear was a member of the First Congregational Church in South Portland. She was the longest living member of the church, having joined April 10, 1932. She was a former deaconess and elder of the church. She was a member, past president and past treasurer of the Matrons of Meeting House Hill, a member of the Altrua Club; and a lifelong member of the Longfellow Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. For many years she was a member of the board of managers of the Cape Elizabeth Home for the Aged and a member of the Women's Literary Union. Surviving are four sons, William F. of Scarborough, Donald H. of Cape Elizabeth, Robert W. of Ocean Spring, Miss., and Willard W. Spear of Dayton, Nev.; one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Virginia) Williams of Traverse City, Mich. Visiting hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hobbs Funeral Home, South Portland, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Falmouth.
