Charles W. Barnhart, 92, of Waverly, N.Y., formerly of Brooktondale, N.Y., passed away on August 19, 2012 at Elderwood Tioga Healthcare Facility following an extended illness. He was born on June 16, 1920 in Waverly, N.Y., the son of the late Harrison and Arra James Barnhart. Charles was a Veteran of the United States Army, and served in WWII. He worked at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. Charles was a member of the V.F.W., Post #8158 Dryden, N.Y., and the Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife Carrie Barnhart, son Harrison W. Barnhart, brother Ernest Barnhart, and sisters Leona Swagart and Evelyn Letito. Charles is survived by his children: Veronica and Bob Hunt of Berkshire, N.Y. and Charles W. and Anna Barnhart of Brooktondale, N.Y.; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister, Sue (Ray) Richards of Waverly, N.Y.; brother, Fred (Lorraine) Barnhart of Kan.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Agraveside service will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Tioga Point Cemetery, 803 North Main Street, Athens, Pa., with the Rev. William Wells officiating. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, Pa. Burial will be in the Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, Pa. Memorial donations may be made in Charles's memory to the: V.F.W. Post #8157, 2272 Dryden Road, Dryden, N.Y., 13053.
