Carl Edgar Baum, well-known La Grande business man passed at a La Grande hospital early Sunday at the age of years, following an extended illness.

The second of 14 children born to Elysness Sylvester and Mary Eva White Baum. He was born July 17, 1890 in Decatur, Macon County. Illinois.

Leaving Illinois at an early age with his family he lived for a time in and around Salt Lake City, Utah, then to Idaho. As a young man he lives a Short time in La Grande, and after making his home in Nampa. Idaho, for a few years, returned to La Grande to make home 1924.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ the Latter Day Saints, La Grande First Ward.

On 20 June 1915 he married Augusta C. Hiatt

Survivors include the widow and four sons; Carl S., Burney, Calif.; Percy H,. Pendleton; John E., La Grande and Cpl. Walter with the MP detachment division of the Army in Wurzburg. Germany.

Daughters are Mrs. Douglas E. Holman (Emma "Judy") and Mrs. Weldon O. Marshall (Laura Mae). Eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, one granddaughter living in Germany.

Brothers surviving are Harry W, Baum of Portland: Raymond of
Union; Earl Hazelton, Idaho and Orville N., Baker.

Sisters Elsie Urie, Idaho: Mrs. Myrtle Karren, Calif.; Mrs. Nona Combs, La Grande and Mrs. Fern Whallon of Portland.

Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons Elwin Hiatt Baum, who died infancy in 1925 and Guy H. Baum, engineer and fireman for the Union Pacific System, who was a victim of a train derailment Jan. 19, 1046. He was also preceded in death by his parents and five sisters, including Mrs. Gladys Arnos this past year,

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, at the lower chapel of the LDS Tabernacle with Bishop Walter A. Bean officiating. Interment will be in the family plot at the City Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Daniels Funeral Home.

Remains will lie in state at the Daniels Chapel at 7 p.m. Tuesday until 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The casket be opened at Tabernacle.
