Marjorie (DuCray) Ennis

Marjorie Ennis, 98, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, January 31.

Marjorie was born on February 28, 1907, in Grand Junction, Colorado to James Pierce DuCray and Linnie (Harrell) DuCray. She attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado and achieved a teaching certificate in June of 1926. She taught school in Collbran, Colorado and homesteaded property above Vega Reservoir, maintaining a working ranch for many years. She was a true pioneer woman from the Old West.

Marjorie married Paul Raymond Ennis on June 14, 1928, in Grand Junction. Marjorie enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and gardening. She was a voracious reader and a gourmet cook. She dedicated her life to loving and caring for her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and was a true friend to many. Marjorie had a joy for life and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Marjorie was predeceased by her parents, James Pierce DuCray and Linnie (Harrell) DuCray and her siblings, Frances Wagner, Harrell DuCray, Ruth Bloss, Kate Young, Ann Landry and Tom DuCray. Survivors include her children, Ruth Thayer and her husband Jim Thayer, Barbara Pigford and Charles Ennis and his wife Ann Ennis; her grandchildren Paula Newton, Andrea Alley, Owen Velasquez, Curt Pigford, Matthew Ennis, Linnie Ennis Krauland, Christopher Ennis, Jonathan Ennis and Eve Ennis; 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Viewing will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2006, at Martin Mortuary. Memorial Services will be held at Martin Mortuary at 10 a.m. the same day, with burial to follow at Orchard Mesa Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Grand Valley, PO Box 60307, Grand Junction, CO 81506. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Martin Mortuary.
