Vicente Ferrer Villa y Martínez was born at el Presidio de Tubác, Sonora (now Arizona). He was the son of soldado Juan José Villa y Daniela and María Paulina Martínez. Vicente was present at the establishment of el Presidio de Tucsón on August 20, 1775. Living under the constant threat of Apache raids, Vicente's father took advantage of the opportunity to leave Tucsón by signing on to an expedition to escort settlers to Alta California. Vicente accompanied his parents to Alta California with Captain Rivera y Moncada's expedition in 1781. He appears in the 1790 Census at the home of his parents in el Pueblo de los Angeles. Vicente enlisted as a soldado de cuera and was assigned to the garrison at el Presidio de Santa Bárbara. He married (1) María Josefa Sinoba y Bojorques at Mission San Gabriel February 5, 1796 (SG Marriage 00558). After María Josefa's death, he married (2) María Rita Quiteria Váldez y Quintero at Mission San Gabriel on February 16, 1808 (SG Marriage 01006). Vicente was a retired cabo (corporal) when he died at el Pueblo de los Angeles. He was buried in the cemetery of the Plaza Church August 11, 1828 (LA Death 00072).
