DORTHA L. BEERS, 89, of Winfield, Kansas passed away Saturday morning, September 21, 2013 at her son's home in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Born April 7, 1924 in Douglass, Kansas, she was the daughter of Guy and Ada (Cadwalader) Scott. She was raised in Geuda Springs, attended Arkansas City schools and a graduate of San Antonio College.

Dortha was united in marriage to John Beers in 1942 in Seattle, Washington. She worked for Boeing in Wichita for ten years. The couple moved to San Antonio, Texas and lived there for 38 years. While in San Antonio, Dortha worked as a floor nurse for 18 years, retiring in 1992. Mr. Beers preceded her in death in 1997. Dortha moved back to Winfield in 1998.

She was a member of the Highland Christian Church in San Antonio. She enjoyed studying history and genealogy and reading.

Her family includes: Her sons: John Beers of Winfield; and Eric Beers of Chesapeake, VA; Her sister: Phyllis Raber of Augusta; Her grandchildren: Tiffany, Arielle, Brandi and three great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dortha was preceded in death by her brothers Leonard, Jackie, Jimmy and Billy and her sisters Lois and Winona.

Graveside services will be held at Tannehill Cemetery on Saturday, October 5th, 2013at 10:00 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Dortha's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
