HAMPTON - Hubert Green, 89, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his wife and daughters, Saturday, July 16, 2005. He was born October 5, 1915, and retired from the shipyard in 1980, after 44 years of service. He was a gentleman and will be loved and missed by many. He was a loving, kind husband and father who took good care of his wife and family. A man of few words, he was quiet, meek and hardworking. He was preceded in death by one son; one grandson; one great-great grandson; his parents; two brothers and two sisters. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 64 years, Beulah Green; two daughters, Gwendolyn Washington and Ernestine Byrd; two sons, Jefferson Green and Wallace Green (Mary); eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren; a stepsister, Daisy Sinclair; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral will be held noon Friday, July 22, at First Baptist Church Jefferson Park, Newport News. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. The Green family is receiving services of comfort from Nicholson-Cummings Funeral Home, 4304 Victoria Blvd., Hampton.
