FAIRMONT -- Nicola "Nick" Fantasia, 82, of Kingmont, died Monday afternoon, September 12, 2005, at his residence.
He was born on January 3, 1923, in Kingmont, a son of the late Louis and Rose DiGiacomo Fantasia.
He was a Marion County educator and principal for over 40 years from 1955-86 at Kingmont, Watson, Barnes and East Park Elementary schools. He also served in the West Virginia State Legislature for 22 years.
He was founder of a family-owned radio station business. He was preparing for his 3,000th broadcast this Sunday of the "Italian Hour," which he has done for the past 57 years.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Cath-olic Church and a member of the Holy Name Society at the church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree Marian Assembly No. 2114, American Legion, VFW Post 1310, Fairmont Moose Lodge No. 9, Elks B.P.O. 294, Kiwanis, Fairmont State Letterman Alumni Association, West Virginia University Alumni Foundation, and Democratic Men.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Medical Corps.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Carmella D. Simonetti Fantasia; four daughters, Georgeanna Atkinson and husband Ira of Parkersburg, Rosemary Fantasia of Fairmont, Gina Fantasia and husband Drew Capuder of Fairmont and Honorable Annette Fantasia of Parkersburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Mayor Nick and Beth Fantasia of Fairmont; three grandchildren, Andy and Carrie Atkinson of Parkersburg and Nicholas Fantasia of Fairmont; and one great-granddaughter, Natalie Rose Atkinson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Nicolena Fantasia.
Friends may call at the Ross Funeral Home, 801 Fairmont Ave., Fairmont, Wednesday and Thursday from 1-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, September 16, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Patsy Iaquinta as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Knights of Columbus Marian Assembly No. 2114 will hold a ritual service at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening in the funeral home.
A vigil service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Thursday evening in the funeral home. Marion County Veterans Council will hold full military honors at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fantasia Family Scholarship Fund at the Fairmont State University Foundation, 1201 Locust Ave., Fairmont, WV 26554.
