Funeral services for Mr. Shannon Earl Brooks Jr., 42, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at North Star Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Marcus L. Jackson Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of John R. Harmon Undertaking Co. Mr. Brooks died Sept. 12, 2013, at his residence.
Mr. Brooks was born April 27, 1971, in Smith County. He was a graduate of John Tyler High School class of 1989 and attended Tyler Junior College.
He was a lifelong resident of Smith County and a member of Peoples Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
Shannon was a deacon at Peoples Missionary Baptist Church for more than 12 years, sang in the Male Chorus, served as an usher, was on the Kitchen Committee and was a youth sponsor. He also was a member of the East Texas Corvette Association and an original member of the East Texas Baptist Association laymen.
Survivors include wife, Natalie Brooks, Tyler; mother, Lawanda McGee (Gary), Tyler; son, ShaKav-on Brooks, Tyler; daughter, Hae'lee Taylor, Forney; brothers, Sedric McGee (Linda), Tyler, and Corey McGee (Felecia), Tyler; and special niece, Cordasia McGee.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Peoples Missionary Baptist Church. .
