Harley Parker Gilbertson was born July 17, 1924 at Flora, ND, the son of John and Mabel (Langlie) Gilbertson. He attended the Flora school and graduated in 1942 from the Benson County Agricultural and Training School at Maddock. Harley then farmed on the home farm with his parents, later assuming ownership and management of the farming operation until his retirement. He was an aviation enthusiast, earning his private pilot's license and maintained a private airstrip on his farm. Harley moved to Jamestown in 2004.
Harley was confirmed at the North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock, but was a life member of the Flora Lutheran Church. He served as treasurer of the church for eight years and was a member of various charitable organizations. Harley loved flying and also enjoyed collecting, cutting and polishing various kinds of rocks.
Surviving are his very special friend of 43 years: Agnes West of Jamestown; her family: daughter Susan (Steve) Senger of Jamestown and son Terry (Sherlyn) West of Grand Forks, ND; Agnes' grandchildren, who treasured him as a grandpa: James Senger and his daughters Sierra and Morgan Senger, Carrie (Jeff) Allen and their sons Cole and Morgan, Jennifer (Seth) Rogers and their son Austin; and numerous cousins.
Harley was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Major Merle Gilbertson, who was killed in a F84 Jet Fighter accident on October 18, 1950.
