Geno L. Bertini, 88, of Warwick, formerly of Craven Hill, Charleroi, died Monday, September 5, 2005, with his family at his side, in Neshaminy Manor Nursing Home near Philadelphia.

Born Februay 11, 1917, he was raised in the Grandville and Donora areas, a son of Frank and Elizabeth Landini Bertini.

Mr. Bertini was a graduate of Donora High School and a member of Mary Mother of the Church Parish in Charleroi. He also was a member of Sons of Italy in Charleroi and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was a meritorious U.S. Army veteran of World War II as part of the OSS Specialist Unit in Italy as an undercover agent. He received five medals and many letters of commendation.

He worked for A&P Tea Co. for 33 years and then became the owner of Foodland and Shop 'n Save supermarkets in the Mon Valley, retiring in 1995.

He was an admired and accomplished man, and his pleasant smile will be missed by all who passed through his life.

Surviving are his devoted and loving wife, Bonnie McNab Bertini; a daughter, Trudi Bertini of McConnellsburg; a stepson, Robert Scott Webster and wife Diana of New Britain. He was the gentle and loving grandfather of Lee, Katy, Theresa, Tara, Emily and Owen. He also leaves a brother and sister-in-law, Richard A. and Cecelia Bertini of Pleasant Hills; a sister, Jennie McMonagle of California; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Hugh J. and Evelyn McNab; five sisters-in-law, Lilian Hudson, Nancy Lowe, Marie Ulrich, Kara Joyner and Mary Dulove; and many loving nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.

Deceased are his first wife, Nancy Bertini; a son, Alan Geno Bertini, who died in 1980; and two sisters, Rita Nones and Inez Budd.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess Street, Monongahela. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, September 9, in Mary Mother of the Church Parish, Charleroi, with Fr. David Dzermejko as celebrant. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
