Robert Paul "Bob" Andrews, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2013 at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin. He was born on June 14, 1921 in Kingston, Tennessee to Joseph R. and Lura (Day) Andrew. He married Opal Lucille Parnell on July 1, 1949.

Bob is survived by children, Karen (Steve) Robards of Bargersville; Lynn Price of Franklin; Heather Andrews of Breckenridge, Colorado, Kevin Andrews of Franklin and Valarie (Patrick) Zufall of Franklin. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Dixon, Joey Price and Sarah (Steve) Caldwell and four great-grandchildren, CJ Dixon and Kaitlyn, Lia and Lauren Caldwell. He was preceded in passing by his wife, Opal; and parents, Joseph and Lura Andrew, brothers, Edgbert, Cecil and Gene and sister, Marie.

Bob was a 1940 graduate of Hagerstown High School and attended Tri State College. He entered the U.S. Army in August, 1941. He served in the European theatre as a member of the 1272 Engineer Combat Battalion and the 1008 Engineers Special Services Battalion returning home in March, 1946.

He retired from the U.S. Army in 1981 as a CW4. He was employed by Perfect Circle, Chrysler and Allison Division GMC, receiving the GM Gold Medal for Community Service in 1982. He retired from Allison's in 1982. Bob was a member of the New Castle Masonic Lodge No. 91, F & AM since 1951.

He was a member of the Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine and Legion of Honor. He was also a member of the Johnson County Shrine Club and was a Shriner of the Year. He was a past member of the Sojourners. Bob was a member of the Greenwood American Legion Post No. 252. He was a founding member of the Johnson County Association of Retarded Citizens (Gateway) serving several terms as president of the organization and was instrumental in the acquisition and purchase of the current building locations.

Bob served as Regional Vice President and Treasurer for several terms in the ARC of Indiana. He was an honored life member and historian of the American Indian Council having served as co-chairman and member of the Board of Directors for several terms. He was a member of the Midwest Cherokee Alliance and served as historian. Bob was also an associate member of the Cherokee Elders Council of Locust Grove, Oklahoma. He founded and sustained their school fund.

In 2010, he donated his library of books on Native Americans to the Cherokee Elders Council for a reference library with some of the rare books dating back to the 1800s. The library was named in his honor.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, September 20, 2013 at 11am at South Mound Cemetery in New Castle, Indiana. Friends may call on Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 4-8pm at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. A Masonic Service will be held on Thursday, September 19th at 7:30pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. Andrews has requested donations to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, International Headquarters, 2900 Rocky Point Dr, Tampa, Fl, or the Cherokee Elders Council, Box 163, 101 Market Place, Locust Grove, Ok.
