Early Life | Education: Dale was born April 7, 1919, in Alpine, Utah, to Clarence and Jessie Maria Reid Burgess. He was very athletic, loving all sports, and playing football for Brigham Young University. He graduated from BYU with a degree in Agriculture and later earned his Master's Degree in Education.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: For the next 32 years after graduating from BYU, Dale was a teacher and principal in the Alpine School District. on December 29, 1943, he married Afton Devey in the Salt Lake Temple. Dale loved to farm, from his hundred acre dry farm, to his fruit orchard, to his back yard garden. Dale served faithfully in many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life, including serving as a bishop and as a member of the stake presidency. Dale and Afton served an 18 month full-time mission to South Africa in 1984 to 1985. He also gave a great deal of service to the community and county. Dale and Afton enjoyed traveling throughout the world. In their later years, they enjoyed traveling and camping with their Good Sam group and made many good friends there. On September 14, 2013, George Dale Burgess, of Lehi, Utah, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. He was 94.
Survived By: His wife, Afton; son, Brian (Becky) Burgess; son, Gary (Monja) Burgess; daughter, Deonne Anthony; 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceded In Death By: His parents, brother, Reid; and sisters, Ann and Pauline.
