The Daily Northwestern (Oshkosh, WI) Sat 7 Mar 1908, page 2:
Richard Bammessel, formerly a resident of this city and a prominent merchant of Sheboygan, passed away at 9:30 o'clock this morning at the home of his mother, Mrs. Herbert Bammessel, 194 Washington street. He had been in Oshkosh the last nine weeks.
Death was the result of tuberculosis from which Mr. Bammessel had suffered the last four years, growing steadily worse during the last year. He was only thirty-seven years of age. The disease is believed to have been the result of a operation four years ago, an illness obtainins a strong hold on his lungs which he was unable to throw off in time.
Mr. Bammessel was born in this city January 10, 1871 (?). He spent his life in Oshkosh up to thirteen years ago when he went to Sheboygan to manage a clothing store. About seven years ago he opened a clothing store of his own at Sheboygan, known as the Star. He had been successful in his business there. He was an Elk and an Eagle, connected with Sheboygan branches.
Surviving are the mother, four sisters, Mrs. Ernst Hoppe, Mrs. Albert Becker, Mrs. J. C. Mueller, and Mrs. John Merten; and three brothers, Louis, Darbert and Herbert Bammessel, all of this city.
The funeral will take place next Tuesday with services at 2 p.m. at the residence.

NOTE: Cemetery records give birth year as 1870; above as 1871.

Richard was born in 1871 not 1870. He is not listed on the 1870 census taken in June of that year (his birth mo was January),so the dob in his obit is correct. The stone shows dod as 1907 which is also incorrect. It was for sure 1908. Lots of times stones are placed many years after the death and memory's have faded. I've had this happen in my own family. Can you edit the dob/dod with the actual dates and in the bio note that the gravestone dates have been researched and are not correct? (Or add the correct info in the bio) I never know how to handle these situations. Thank you..........Sondra Cartwright
