Mr. James Alton Baxley, 85, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Southeastern Health of Lumberton. He was born in Robeson County on December 12, 1927 to the late Jim Baxley and Nettie Conner Baxley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Melissa Gail Baxley and a step-grandddaughter, April Hayes.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Turner Baxley, of the home; his son, James E. Baxley and wife, Phyllis of Lumberton; his daughter, Kathy Lamb and husband, Jamie of Lumberton; two brothers, W. C. Baxley and Junior Lee Baxley, both of Fairmont; a sister, Jimmie Ree Edwards of Rocky Mount; three grandchildren, Tracy Lynn Smith, Jimmy Wayne Baxley and wife, Regina, and Junior Freeman and wife, Amy; five great-grandchildren, Jimmy Deion Baxley, Amber Gail Smith, Melissa Miranda Baxley, and Jayden and Jaylee Freeman; and a step-great-great grandson, Kalem Peterson.
