Alvin is survived by his wife, Laverne of 59 years; son, Joseph Bormann of Martinsville, IN; daughter, Janet Young of Crown Point; 4 grandchildren: Rachel Nate Powell, Crystal Young, Jacob Plantinga and Elijah Bormann; great-grandchildren: Svara, Jaidev and Harper; brother, Robert Bormann of Rensselaer; sister, Dorothy Hixson of Harrisburg, PA; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Gus and Emma Bormann; grandson, Joshua Bormann; 3 sisters; 3 brothers.
Alvin was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters Court 293. He retired from Dyer Construction after 41 years.
Alvin proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was a member of both the American Legion Post 20 in Crown Point and the Moose-Rensselaer Lodge 2272. He loved to travel, visit flea markets, and spending time with family and friends.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre, Crown Point, IN from 2:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral prayers will be said on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 9:15 AM at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre in Crown Point, IN followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, Crown Point, IN with Fr. Pat Kalich officiating.
