Swallie, John William Kirk, age 79, of North Canton passed away in the home on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 following an extended illness. Born in Barnesville, OH on October 8, 1926 to the late George and Mae Swallie. He went to serve his country proudly in the United States Army during WWII and worked in communications for East Ohio Gas Co. where he retired from in 1989 after 33 years of faithful service. He was a member of Hartville Church of Christ and previously with 38th St. Church of Christ. John was a wonderful family man, he liked to travel, enjoyed the local football games but nothing meant more to him than the love he shared as a husband, father, grandpa, brother, and friend.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Larry Swallie.

Survivors include his wife, Martha L. Swallie of the home and to whom he was married 54 years, three daughters; Margie (Jim) Goulet, Kim (Randy) Mulheim, and Cam (Mike) Hair all of North Canton, son, Jay (Theresa) Swallie of Hartville, five grandchildren, Justin, John, Brittany, Jay Dee, and Zach, two brothers, Ronald (Betty) Swallie and Jim (Shirley) Swallie, sister, Virginia (Jim) Kearns. There are many nieces and nephews also surviving.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Schmotzer and his staff for the compassionate care we received. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2005 in the Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel (801 Pittsburg Ave. N.W.) with Minister Dean Miller officiating. Burial will be in North Canton Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the services 10-11a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Aultman Hospice or Hartville Church of Christ 715 W. Maple St. PO Box 13 Hartville, OH 44632.
